In the Know

May is one of the most beautiful months of the year in the north temperate zone.  Our summer’s intense heat has not yet begun.  The first garden crops begin to sprout in May.  The trees and grass are green, and wild plants are in bloom.  Wild flowers that blossom in different parts of the United States include the jack-in-the-pulpit, anemone, hepatica, forsythia, dogwood, and blue, yellow, and white violets.  Many birds have built their nests, and mother birds are sitting on the eggs, which will soon hatch.

There are several stories about how the month of May was named.  The most widely accepted explanation is that it was named for Maia, the Roman goddess of spring and growth.  Her name seems to be related to a Latin word that means increase or growth.  I never knew that, so hopefully we can all expand our brains a little more.

Circle is May 7th at 7:00 pm in the Fellowship Hall for Betty Kendrick group and 1:00 pm for Circle #1.

Mother’s Day is May 13th.

May 16th will be Happy Year’s at 12:00 noon.  Bring a covered dish and a “white elephant” bingo gift.

May 17th is the last Bingo at Terrace Ridge.  It will resume in September.  They need some volunteers to help.

The women of the church are celebrating their birthday once again.  Mark your calendars for May 20th at 5:00 pm in the Fellowship Hall.  Remember that we are to decorate the 12 round tables with a winter, spring, summer, or fall theme.  If you have not been asked or given one of these seasons, please contact Sue Lewis or Claire Cabral.  The tables need to be decorated the 18th, 19th,  or after church on the 20th.  I will be revealing the lifetime honorary membership to someone special that evening.  I hope that you will all be able to attend and enjoy this fellowship together.  Our speaker will be Betty Sims and she is giving her personal testimony.  I hear she has some comedy to bring our way, lots of laughs and smiles.

During the worship service the morning of the 20th, we will be recognizing our graduates.  What an exciting day this will be.  If you have someone graduating, let Melody Caldwell or myself  know asap.
