Call to Worship

Leader: We’ve come to worship God,

People: who makes streams flow from rock,

Leader: who turns the parched earth into springs of water, who sends the rain from heaven and makes the wilderness blossom and flourish.

People: As the deer thirsts for flowing streams, so we thirst for You, O God.

Leader: Come, let’s worship our life-giving God,

People: who pours out living water on all who thirst.

Prayer of Confession 

All:  Gracious God, we are so thankful that you have led us into the light. We thank you for sending Christ to call us from death to life. We were dead in sin before we heard his call, but when we heard him, like Lazarus, we arose. But Father, we confess that the grave clothes bind us still. Old habits are hard for us to throw off, old customs that are still so much a part of our lives ake us helpless to live the new life that Christ calls us to live. Give us strength, O Father, to break those old bonds; give us courage to live a new life in you; give us faith to believe that with your help we cannot fail. All this we ask in the name of the Savior who has taught us to come to you. Amen.

Assurance of Pardon

Leader: Hear the Good News:The Lord is faithful in all his words, and gracious in all his deeds.

People: The Lord upholds all who are falling, and raises up all who are bowed down

God of mercy, you promised never to break your covenant with us. Amid all the changing words of our generation, speak your eternal Word that does not change. Enable us to respond to your gracious promises with faithful and obedient lives.  Through our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.

55:1   “Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters; and you who have no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without cost.  2 Why spend money on what is not bread, and your labor on what does not satisfy? Listen, listen to me, and eat what is good, and your soul will delight in the richest of fare.  3 Give ear and come to me; hear me, that your soul may live. I will make an everlasting covenant with you, my faithful love promised to David.  4 See, I have made him a witness to the peoples, a leader and commander of the peoples.  5 Surely you will summon nations you know not, and nations that do not know you will hasten to you, because of the LORD your God, the Holy One of Israel, for he has endowed you with splendor.”

Affirmation of Faith

All: I believe that the Son of God through his Spirit and Word,

out of the entire human race,

from the beginning of the world to its end,

gathers, protects, and preserves for himself

a community chosen for eternal life and united in true faith.

And of this community I am and always will be a living member.
