Preparing for God’s Word

Prelude

Call to Worship

[Based on Psalm 100]
Leader: Shout with joy to God, all the earth!

People: Serve the Lord with gladness! Come into his presence with singing!

Leader: Remember that our God is the only God-- the One who made us, the One who sustains us, the One whose Spirit lives within us.

People: Serve the Lord with gladness! Come into his presence with singing!

Leader: We belong to the Lord; we are the sheep of his pasture. Let us enter God's house with thanksgiving and praise.

People: Serve the Lord with gladness! Come into his presence with singing!

Leader: God is good. He has unfailing love that lasts forever and faithfulness that extends to all!

People: Serve the Lord with gladness! Come into his presence with singing!

Hymn of Praise

“Praise Ye the Lord the Almighty"

Praise to the Lord, the Almighty, the King of creation!
O my soul, praise Him, for He is thy health and salvation!
All ye who hear, now to His temple draw near,
Praise Him in glad adoration.

Praise to the Lord, who o’er all things so wondrously reigneth,
Shelters thee under His wings, yea, so gently sustaineth!
Hast thou not seen how thy desires e’er have been
Granted in what He ordaineth?

Praise to the Lord, O let all that is in me adore Him!
All that hath life and breath, come now with praises before Him!
Let the amen sound from His people again;
Gladly forever adore Him.

Prayer of Confession

Leader: God of birth, God of joy, God of life, we come to you as a people hungry for good news. We are often so blind to the miracles you do around us that we miss your goodness and glory.

People: Heal us, Jesus, Savior of the World.
Leader: We become so preoccupied with ourselves and pleasure that we overlook the joy you offer us.
People: Heal us, Jesus, Savior of the World.

Leader: We have been so concerned with making a living that we miss the life you have set before us.
People: Heal us, Jesus, Savior of the World.

Leader: Forgive us, gracious God. Open our eyes and our hearts to receive your gifts and open our lips and hands to share them with others. In the name of our Savior, Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.

Assurance of Pardon

[based on Romans 8:1]

Hymn of Response

        ”Guide me, O Thou great Jehovah

Guide me, O Thou great Jehovah,

Pilgrim through this barren land;
I am weak, but Thou art mighty,
Hold me with Thy pow’rful hand.
Bread of heaven, Bread of heaven,
Feed me til I want no more

Feed me til I want no more

Open now the crystal fountain,
Whence the healing stream doth flow;
Let the fire and cloudy pillar
Lead me all my journey through.
Strong Deliv’rer, strong Deliv’rer,
Be Thou still my Strength and Shield;
Be Thou still my Strength and Shield.

When I tread the verge of Jordan,
Bid my anxious fears subside;
Death of death and hell’s destruction,
Land me safe on Canaan’s side.
Songs of praises, songs of praises,
I will ever give to Thee;
I will ever give to Thee.

Glorify Thy Name in all the earth

Old Testament Reading

Psalm 100

Sermon

“Our Chief Purpose... We Glorify because We Know that the Lord is God"

Responding to God’s Word

Profession of Faith

[Modern version of The Larger Westminster Catechism Q&A 1-2]

Leader: What is the primary and highest purpose for humankind?

People: The primary and highest purpose for humankind is to glorify God, and to enjoy Him fully forever.

Leader: What evidence is there for God?

People: Humankind’s internal natural understanding, and the works of God, plainly indicate that there is a God. However, God’s Word and Spirit are the only ways God sufficiently and effectually reveals himself to humankind for their salvation.

Prayer of the People

Hymn of Thanksgiving

“For the Beauty of the Earth"

For the beauty of the earth,
for the glory of the skies,
for the love which from our birth
over and around us lies;
Lord of all, to thee we raise
this our hymn of grateful praise.

For the wonder of each hour
of the day and of the night,
hill and vale, and tree and flower,
sun and moon, and stars of light;
Lord of all, to thee we raise
this our hymn of grateful praise.

For the joy of ear and eye,
for the heart and mind's delight,
for the mystic harmony,
linking sense to sound and sight;
Lord of all, to thee we raise
this our hymn of grateful praise.

For the joy of human love,
brother, sister, parent, child,
friends on earth and friends above,
for all gentle thoughts and mild;
Lord of all, to thee we raise
this our hymn of grateful praise.

For Thyself, best Gift Divine,
to the world so freely given,
for that great, great love of thine,
peace on earth, and joy in heaven:
Lord of all, to thee we raise
this our hymn of grateful praise.

Benediction

Benediction Response

"Make Me A Servant"

Make me a servant, humble and meek
Lord, let me lift up those who are weak
And may the prayer of my heart always be
Make me a servant, make me a servant
Make me a servant today
