Praying thru Colossians 1: 9-12

This is a prayer walk, that allows you to use Colossians 1: 9-12 as prayer prompts as you walk through the woods. Sometimes in life we don’t really know what to pray to God. In Colossians 1: 9-12 Paul covers 7 requests that touch areas of lives that need the Lord’s daily touch. There are 7 benches along Union’s outdoor trail (part of the trail is in the woods behind the cemetery the other part connects the church grounds to Forrestview High School)  At each bench you could stop and pray through one of these 7 requests or simply begin a new one as you walk. These 7 prayer prompts are part of study section of Colossians 1: 9-12 in the Charles F. Staley Life Principles Bible NASB.

Colossians 1: 9-12

9   For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you and asking God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all spiritual wisdom and understanding.  10 And we pray this in order that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God,  11 being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and joyfully 12 giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in the kingdom of light.

PRAYER REQUEST 1- May we be filled with the knowledge of God’s will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding. (v.9)

We can ask God to fill us with the spiritual discernment we need as we walk in His will and study his Word.

PRAYER REQUEST 2- May we walk in a manner worthy of the Lord Jesus Christ. (v.10)

Jesus lived a blameless life, it is the sort of life we should pursue as well. We will always fall short of living like Christ… but what are 1 or 2 ways you could strive to walk more like him this week?

PRAYER REQUEST 3- May we please God in all respects. (v. 10)

Paul encouraged believers to live a life that honored God. Is there something you are working on right now that you are making too much about you? How can you change your attitude to make you effort more about please God?

PRAYER REQUEST 4- May we bear fruit in every good work. (v. 10)

In Christ, our life may not always be good, easy, or happy, but it should have an eternal impact. How might you words and deeds this week influence those around you for the sake of the Kingdom of God?

PRAYER REQUEST 5- May we increasingly grow in the knowledge of God. (v. 10)

We should always be working toward laying hold of a deeper, more intimate relationship with the Lord.

PRAYER REQUEST 6- May we be strengthened will all power, according to his glorious might. (v. 11)

Ask God to empower you to do HIS will for HIS glory. It is a request that calls for change. Too often we do what we do in our will and in our strength. But if we do ask in HIS will and for HIS glory- anything is possible.

PRAYER REQUEST 7- May our lives express joyous thanks to the Father for His grace to us. (v. 12).

Our love for Him should run so deep that we can’t help but give all the glory and honor to God. What do you have to thank God for right now?
