Prelude

Choral Introit

#2164, “Sanctuary,”  #2064, “O Lord, You’re Beautiful” Sing the Faith Hymnal

Lord, prepare me to be a sanctuary, pure and holy, tried and true

With thanksgiving, I'll be a living sanctuary for You

Oh, Lord, You're beautiful, Your face is all I seek
For when Your eyes are on this child, Your grace abounds to me

Lord, prepare me to be a sanctuary, pure and holy, tried and true

With thanksgiving, I'll be a living sanctuary for You

O Lord, You’re wonderful, Your touch is all I need

And when Your hand in on this child, Your healing I receive

Lord, prepare me to be a sanctuary, pure and holy, tried and true

With thanksgiving, I'll be a living sanctuary for You

People: You are the hope of the whole world.

Leader: How happy is the one you choose to bring close.

People: We are filled full by the goodness of your house and in the sanctuary where you meet us.

Preparing for God's Word

Hymn of Adoration

#65, "Guide Me, O Thou Great Jehovah”

Guide me, O Thou great Jehovah,
Pilgrim through this barren land.
I am weak, but Thou art mighty;
Hold me with Thy powerful hand.
Bread of heaven,

Bread of heaven,
Feed me till I want no more

Feed me till I want no more

Open now the crystal fountain,
Whence the healing stream doth flow;
Let the fire and cloudy pillar
Lead me all my journey through.
Strong Deliverer,
Strong Deliverer,
Be Thou still my Strength and Shield.

Be Thou still my Strength and Shield.

When I tread the verge of Jordan,
Bid my anxious fears subside;
Death of death, and hell's destruction,
Land me safe on Canaan's side.
Songs of praises,
Songs of praises,

I will ever give to Thee.

I will ever give to Thee;

Prayer of Confession

[based on Psalm 51: 10-12]

Leader: Faithful God, we ask that you would forgive our faithlessness. That you would see beyond our apathy and thoughtlessness,
People: Lord, have mercy.

Leader: Heavenly Father we pray that you would forgive our self-centeredness and our wrong choices. And look into our hearts to see how much we treasure you.

People: Lord, have mercy.

[time of silent confession]

Leader: Let us continue in prayer:

People: Create in us a clean heart, O God,  and renew a right spirit within us. Do not cast us from your presence, or take your Holy Spirit from us. Restore to us the joy of your salvation  and sustain us with your bountiful Spirit  through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.

Assurance of Pardon

Leader: While it is true that we all have sinned, it is a far more wonderful truth that we are forgiven through God’s love in Jesus Christ.

People: To all who humbly seek the mercy of God, we are assured through Scripture that in Jesus Christ our sin is forgiven.

Leader: Thanks be to God.

Prayer of Illumination

New Testament Reading: Mark 10:46-52

46   Then they came to Jericho. As Jesus and his disciples, together with a large crowd, were leaving the city, a blind man, Bartimaeus (that is, the Son of Timaeus), was sitting by the roadside begging.  47 When he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to shout, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!”

48   Many rebuked him and told him to be quiet, but he shouted all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!”

49   Jesus stopped and said, “Call him.”

 So they called to the blind man, “Cheer up! On your feet! He’s calling you.”  50 Throwing his cloak aside, he jumped to his feet and came to Jesus.

51   “What do you want me to do for you?” Jesus asked him.

 The blind man said, “Rabbi, I want to see.”

52   “Go,” said Jesus, “your faith has healed you.” Immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus along the road.

Responding to God’s Word

Affirmation of Faith

[The Apostles Creed]

People: I believe in God, the Father Almighty,

Maker of heaven and earth;

and in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord;

who was conceived by the Holy Ghost,

born of the Virgin Mary,

suffered under Pontius Pilate,

was crucified, dead, and buried.

He descended into hell.

The third day he rose again from the dead.

He ascended into heaven,

and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty.

From thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Ghost,

the holy catholic Church,

the communion of saints,

the forgiveness of sins,

the resurrection of the body,

and the life everlasting. Amen.

Prayers of the People

Leader: The Lord be with you.

People: And also with you.

Leader: Lift up your hearts.

People: We lift them up to the Lord.

Leader: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.

People: It is right for us to give thanks and praise.

[particular prayers]

Leader: Lord, we need your presence and touch.

People: Jesus Christ, Son of David, have mercy upon us!

The Lord's Prayer

All: Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. Forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

Hymn of Response

#2130, "The Summons," Sing the Faith Hymnal (vs. 1, 3, 5)

Will you come and follow me if I but call your name?
Will you go where you don't know and never be the same?
Will you let my love be shown? Will you let my name be known,
Will you let my life be grown in you and you in me?

Will you let the blinded see if I but call your name?
Will you set the prisoners free and never be the same?
Will you kiss the leper clean and do such as this unseen,
And admit to what I mean in you and you in me?

Lord your summons echoes true when you but call my name.
Let me turn and follow you and never be the same.
In Your company I'll go where Your love and footsteps show.
Thus I'll move and live and grow in you and you in me.

Benediction

Benediction Response

#2087, "We Will Glorify the King of Kings,” Sing the Faith Hymnal (vs. 3, 1)

He is Lord of Heaven, Lord of Earth

He is Lord of all who live;

He is Lord above the universe,

All praise to him we give.

We will glorify the King of kings,

We will glorify the Lamb;

We will glorify the Lord of lords,

Who is the great I AM.
